Bin collection day in South Australia

Green Industries SA publishes a sustainable kerbside model for councils. It is a recommended service, not a statement that every South Australian household already has that timetable. Metropolitan councils have been on a three-bin service for longer, and some still use a lid colour that does not match the Australian Standard.

Bin Stickers Australia is an independent sticker supplier. We are not a council or government waste service. Confirm collection days, missed bins and replacement bins on your council's official website.

Lid colours we can cite

  • Green — Food and garden organics
  • Yellow — Comingled recycling
  • Red — General waste under the Australian Standard

What the official pages say

The Sustainable Kerbside Service is weekly food and garden organics, fortnightly comingled recycling, and fortnightly general waste. Green Industries SA says this model is most likely to suit metropolitan councils and large regional centres.

Green Industries SA says bin-lid signage should follow Australian Standard AS 4123.7. Its kerbside performance reporting lists red for general waste, lime green for organics, yellow for recyclables, and blue for paper and cardboard.

That same reporting found every metropolitan Adelaide council it measured used a yellow recycling lid, while some still used a blue lid for general waste. Blue is the standard colour for paper and cardboard, so check the lid you were given, not only the standard.

A sticker does not change the collection week. If you are labelling the bin, see where to put the sticker and how collection days work.
