Bin collection day in New South Wales

In New South Wales, local councils run the household kerbside service. The NSW Environment Protection Authority publishes the standard bin colours and says the collection day, and what can go in the recycling bin, comes from your council.

Bin Stickers Australia is an independent sticker supplier. We are not a council or government waste service. Confirm collection days, missed bins and replacement bins on your council's official website.

Lid colours we can cite

  • Red — Garbage
  • Yellow — Mixed recycling
  • Blue — Paper and cardboard
  • Lime green — Organics, including FOGO

What the official pages say

The EPA says councils run kerbside recycling, the materials differ by council, and you should contact your council for what goes in the bin and when it is collected.

EPA standard recycling signs follow Australian Standard AS 4123.7. For common household waste they list a red lid for garbage, yellow for mixed recycling, blue for paper and cardboard, and lime green for organics, including food and garden organics collected together. Bin bodies are dark green or black.

On food organics, the EPA says a lime-green lid is the accepted colour for FOGO. A food-only service may use a green or maroon lid. Maroon can be mistaken for red in low light.

A sticker does not change the collection week. If you are labelling the bin, see where to put the sticker and how collection days work.
