Where to label a wheelie bin

The useful spot is the one a person can read from the footpath, on plastic that does not flex every time the lid opens.

Bin Stickers Australia is an independent sticker supplier. We are not a council or government waste service. Confirm collection days, missed bins and replacement bins on your council's official website.

Best surfaces

  • Front of the lid โ€” visible when the bin faces the street. Keep the sticker off the hinge line and off the lip that the truck grabs.
  • Front body โ€” the panel under the lid. Good for a large bin number. Stay above the wheels and clear of the lower ribs that scuff on the kerb.
  • Side, near the handle โ€” useful as a second number so you can see it from the house. Do not put the only number here if the truck approaches from the front.

Places to avoid

  • The hinge and the lid seal. Vinyl there cracks.
  • Directly over an existing council serial, barcode or RFID area if those marks are still in use. Place your number beside them.
  • Deep textured panels and anti-slip patches. Vinyl bridges the texture and peels.
  • The very bottom edge, where the bin drags.

What to write

A bin number sticker should match the identifier your council already uses, once you have found that number. A waste-type sticker such as General waste, Recycling, Garden organics or FOGO is a reminder for the household. It does not change which truck is booked. If your council uses lid colour for that job, match their wording rather than inventing a new category.

Measure the flat area before you order. Measuring for bin stickers covers that.
