Bin collection day in the ACT
The ACT is one collection area rather than a patchwork of councils. Transport Canberra and City Services publishes the bin sizes, the weeks, and the calendar. Apartment and townhouse shared bins can differ in size from a house.
Bin Stickers Australia is an independent sticker supplier. We are not a council or government waste service. Confirm collection days, missed bins and replacement bins on your council's official website.
Lid colours we can cite
- Red or dark green — General waste, weekly
- Yellow — Recycling, fortnightly
- Lime green — Optional garden waste, fortnightly
What the official pages say
City Services says a single residential household has a 140-litre general-waste bin with a red or dark green lid, collected weekly, and a 240-litre recycling bin with a yellow lid, collected fortnightly.
A 240-litre garden-waste bin with a lime-green lid is optional. It has a registration fee, with some concessions, and it is collected fortnightly.
Put the bins out the night before or by 7 am, with the front facing the road and the wheels at the back. Leave at least 30 cm between bins. A missed collection is reported through the City Services bins page, and the bin should stay on the kerb.
Official sources
These pages are the reference for the notes above. Collection day, public-holiday changes and accepted items should be read there, or on your council’s own waste page.
Other states
A sticker does not change the collection week. If you are labelling the bin, see where to put the sticker and how collection days work.
